2008 Grammy Nominations

Akon, Fergie and Jimmy Jam were among industry folk at the Grammy nominations announcement earlier today. For the third time in his career, Kanye West has the most nominations (eight nods in six categories). Amy Crackhouse came in second with six nominations, with four of them in the four big categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Jay-Z, Timbaland, T-Pain and Justin Timberlake all got five nods each; three of Hov's are for "Umbrella". Akon and Rihanna got four nods each while Beyonce and Alicia Keys got two. Rihanna would have six if she co-wrote "Umbrella". More pics from the announcement below...

The four big (or "General Field" they call it) categories:

Album Of The Year:
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (Foo Fighters)
These Days (Vince Gill)
River: The Joni Letters (Herbie Hancock)
Graduation (Kanye West)
Back To Black (Amy Winehouse)

Record Of The Year:
"Irreplaceable" (Beyoncé)
"The Pretender" (Foo Fighters)
"Umbrella" (Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z)
"What Goes Around…Comes Around" (Justin Timberlake)
"Rehab" (Amy Winehouse)

Song Of The Year:
"Before He Cheats," John Kear & Chris Tompkins, songwriters (Carrie Underwood, artist)
"Hey There Delilah," Tom Higgenson, songwriter (Plain White T's, artist)
"Like A Star," Corinne Bailey Rae, songwriter (Corinne Bailey Rae, artist)
"Rehab," Amy Winehouse, songwriter (Amy Winehouse, artist)
"Umbrella," Shawn Carter, Kuk Harrell, Terius "Dream" Nash & Christopher Stewart, songwriters (Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z, artist)

Best New Artist:
Taylor Swift
Amy Winehouse

Tell me why Justin Timberlake's migrane-inducing song is up for Record of the Year...for real? Overall, the nominations are wack but isn't all that great these days.
